ACO

Biography

[ACO]

When she first debuted at age 18, ACO was another girl fresh out of high school primed for the idol set. She moved from Nagoya to Tokyo to embark on a music career, and her first few singles and albums saw the young singer performing standard R&B pop.

But around 1999, ACO grew up. Her music became more sensual, her singing much more mature. And she was willing to take some big risks.

For her fourth album, Absolute Ego, ACO recruited such collaborators as Sunahara Toshinori of Denki Groove, and in 1999, she appeared on hip-hop group Dragon Ash's big hit "Grateful Days". A year later, ACO contributed vocals to DJ Krush's "Tragicomic."

ACO's choice in covers belies the early pop roots of her career. She's performed songs by Sinéad O'Connor, Radiohead and Kate Bush.

After the release of her fifth album, Material, ACO dropped from public view, much like her influence Bush. In 2002, she made an appearance at the Rising Sun Rock Festival and a series of concerts hosted by Quruli.

In 2003, ACO emerged from a two-year absence, working with Icelandic group múm on a single, "Machi", and releasing her sixth album, irony.
