Youjeen
Biography
The folks responsible for marketing Youjeen would like you to think that she's talented by association.
For her debut, the Korean-born singer snagged ex-Luna Sea member J and original Foo Fighters Franz Stahl as collaborators.
But all that name-dropping doesn't matter when listeners hear Youjeen growl, scream and claw her way through walls of punk-metal guitars.
Youjeen is force of musical nature all onto herself.
Her list of influences reads like a Lollapalooza/Vans Warped Tour itenerary: Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, Garbage, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, Rage Against the Machine.
And while a good number of those influences do appear in her incredibly harsh music, Youjeen manages to become more than the sum of those proverbial parts.
In 2002, Youjeen returned to Korea to reunite with her old band, Cherry Filter. The reunion proved to be incredibly successful, forcing Youjeen to put her solo career in Japan on hold.
