Dr.StrangeLove

Biography

[Dr.StrangeLove]

Formed in 1989, Dr.StrangeLove is perhaps one of the best bands in the world that no one has heard of.

Bass guitarist Takamune Negishi and guitarist Osada Susumu have produced and performed on a number of albums by other musicians -- most notably Cocco -- but their own recordings aren't very big hits in Japan.

Even at SXSW 2000, the duo's smart songwriting didn't quite penetrate an audience coming off of Mummy the Peepshow's exuberent punk-pop.

Dr.StrangeLove's songs draw from a number for diverse influences -- from the Beatles to post punk to electronica to the blues -- and its recordings are tightly performed and expertly produced.

The band released its debut album Way Out in 1995. Back then a trio, the group's drummer left in 1997, and Dr.StrangeLove has been a duo ever since.

Dr.StrangeLove then signed to Pony Canyon and released an eponymous album and a number of singles in 1997. It also wrote and recorded the soundtrack to the movie Samehada-Otoko and Momojiri-Onna in 1999. The band's 1999 album, Twin Suns, was mixed by Tchad Blake.

After spending five years as session musicians and producers, Dr.StrangeLove went back into the studio and released The River of Blue Blood in 2004.
