eX-Girl

Biography

[eX-Girl]

eX-Girl formed in 1997 in the true spirit of punk -- none of the trio's members had any experience playing instruments, let alone forming a band.

But in the years since, Kirilo, Chihiro and Fuzuki have won fans across the United States, where they tour extensively. In July 2000, eX-Girl leapt over the Atlantic Ocean to tour Europe, opening for Mike Patton's Fantomas.

eX-Girl's quirky brand of indie rock is adorably amateurish at its worse, downright inspired at its best. Although the group's first album, Heppoku Pou, consists mostly of wild improvisation, its latest efforts show a more sophisticated musicality.

The band's live shows are theatrical events in their own right, with members donning on foam bouffants, dressing up like frogs and shooting toy lasers into the audience.

In 2001, original guitarist Chihiro left the band. She was replaced by Keiko formerly of Super Junky Monkey. eX-Girl opened for Siouxsie and the Banshees in 2002, then went on to tour Europe. In 2003, Fuzuki announced her departure, and she was replaced by Chapple. Later that year, Keiko left and Zorek took over.

In 2004, eX-Girl released its fifth album, Endangered Species, on US indie label Alternative Tenacles.
