Biography

[bloodthirsty butchers]

Together since 1987, bloodthirsty butchers are one of the most well-respected indie bands in Japan.

Consisting of Yoshimura Hideki (vocals, guitar), Imoriya Takeshi (bass) and Komatsu Masahiro (Drums), the butchers write lengthy songs full of dischordant harmonies and marked by Yoshimura's off-key singing.

Beck and Fugazi number among the many fans of the band, and Japanese artists such as Hi-Standard and Asano Tadanobu banded together to record a tribute album to the trio.

The butchers even toured with Rage Against the Machine when it visited Japan in summer 2000.

The band still tour and record, having trekked across the U.S. twice and sharing the bill with Number Girl on the "Harakiri Kocorono" Tour in 2001. After Number Girl disbanded in 2002, guitarist Tabuchi Hisako joined bloodthirsty butchers as a full-time member.

The butchers have recorded for a number of labels in Japan, most recently for Nippon Columbia, which released its first album as a quartet, birdy. In 2005, the butchers released banging the drum, its tenth studio album.
